‘Habits’ at Modern Times
Lumpy accumulations that dance around being pinned down, like a memory you can’t quite form or name you can’t remember. The work embodies an in-between-ness and a sort of-ness. Built with familiar found materials - the forms are simultaneously a room, a feeling or yesterdays lunch. The making and the looking are not too dissimilar, a puzzle with an unknown outcome. These are slow works for slow looking, stacked and loaded with the familiar and the everyday - a colour talking to a texture leading you to a feeling.

A recipe on process
In between discarded and retrieved,
sift and sieve the remnants and scraps.
Nothing is fixed to a singular time or place,
landscape memories into lots of times and lots of places.
Look - see the overlooked and find things,
massage together a familiar feeling.
Joinery, offcuts and things that fit together,
whittle away, always gather the shavings.
Fail and fix, fail and fix, excavate -
Sand back to something shiny.
Stack, move forward move back -
fill in the gaps, this feels familiar.
